Richard Ahiagbah to Contest John Boadu for NPP General Secretary Position

As the days get closer to the National Delegates Conference of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect new National Leaders, indications are that the race for the general secretary position would be a keenly contested one.

The latest kid on the block is Richard Ahiagbah, who is currently the Director of Communication for the NPP in Chicago, USA.

Richard Ahiagbah has served as the diaspora’s mobilization coordinator for the Chicago Chapter in the 2016 elections, and his commitment to the party is known both in the United States and at the party headquarters in Accra. He is a registered voter in the Kpone Katamanso Constituency in Ghana.

In a telephone interview from his Chicago base, Mr. Ahiagbah told The Publisher he would work to position the NPP as the most significant and relevant political philosophy for Ghana if he is given the nod as the party’s next General Secretary.

He proposed to pursue what he calls ‘the four-new pillars of politics’, namely, Leadership, Infrastructure, Information Technology, and Party Organization for the realization of the aspiration of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

Richard also promises a new ethos of service leadership to empower, resource and take great care of the party’s grassroots as the first order of business.

The aspiring General Secretary said he will ensure that the highlights of the 75th and 30th-anniversary celebrations of the tradition will be the inauguration of a stately national headquarters, and promised to leverage on technology for the good of the party at all levels.

“By the end of my first year as General Secretary, every constituency, and regional offices, will have working computers or laptops that are networked nationwide. This is doable and will be done’’ he said.

He further said: “I will functionally and operationally reorganize the NPP to make it an efficient and effective campaign political machine that is, active and engaged in the community, constituency and regional life of the party activists and electorates.’’

This, he said, will move the party from the current top-heavy structure to a bottom-heavy one to achieve the successive electoral victories that former President Kufuor talked about in Cape Coast recently.
