Soldier Jailed 75yrs For Robbery
The Sunyani High Court has sentenced Staff Sergeant Alhassan Hameed, 42, to 75 years imprisonment with hard labour for his involvement in the robbery at the Brong Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD) in Wenchi in February this year.
Justice Larwer Buertey, the presiding judge, who pronounced judgement said, the decision of the court to sentence Sergeant Alhassan follows his own admission to the crime by changing his plea from not guilty to guilty.
Following the decision of the court, the 42 year old veteran with the Ghana Army is expected to serve a prison term of 75 years.
The fate of his other accomplices namely Sheriff Adams alias Alhaji fresh, 31, Osei Kuffuor, 32, Kwadwo Francis, 25, Exmond Bawuah, 27 and Kwadwo Yeboah, 32, who are also standing trial for their alleged roles in the said robbery is yet to be decided by the court.
The suspects were on the 26th of February 2015 arrested by the police at the Yawhima checkpoint near Sunyani after they attacked the the Brong-Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD ) in Wenchi at gunpoint and made away with an amount of money and some items.
